Children are longer a child.

The education in France is much more controlled, children are brought to school and do not hang around on the streets. And if they are 16-17 years and go out for the first time, you always know exactly where they hang out and with whom. Parents call each other to ensure that children do not hang out in the streets aimlessly with an illegally purchased bottle of rum to discover what coma drinking, but are under constant supervision of the parent or guardian.
